Benefits Continued

After reading the following benefits of active learning--Please reflect on the following thoughts/questions....

*What additional benefits of active learning have you witnessed in your classroom?

*Share a challenge you have witnessed for students with active learning

-Active learning involves everyone in the group.
-Active learning is student oriented, not teacher oriented.
-Active learning is process, not outcome oriented.
-Active learning is reinforced and directed through a discussion time. -Active learning allows teachers to observe students as they interact with each other.
-Active learning puts the burden of learning where it belongs-on the students themselves.
-Active learning allows students to have fun while they learn.

Even though there appears to be much resistance to Active Learning among older teachers (hence the seven excuses) I am encouraged at the degree of which I see cooperative/experential learning embraced by newer teachers. As I am a 2-year send career teacher, I have done my observations and student teaching relatively recently and have found this to be extremely prevalent. Group activites where each member has a specific role (which may change) are common. Stud
